Bookkeeping Index is operated by Pleiades Consultancy, a marketing firm. Some of our clients are bookkeeping and accounting firms, and some of them appear in this index. You should know that before you use a list, so here's exactly how it works.

The Featured placement

A firm that's a Pleiades Consultancy client gets a separate Featured box on the page for its market. The box sits after the fifth firm on the page, carries no rank number, and isn't part of the list's structured data. Its link to the firm's website is marked as sponsored. It carries this sentence, word for word:

"Commercial disclosure: [Firm] is a Pleiades Consultancy client and receives this separate Featured placement. This does not affect its score or organic position."

Clients are scored like everyone else

A client firm also appears in the normal list or table, at whatever position its evidence earns, with the same disclosure beside its name. The weights, the coverage bar and the listing rules are the same for every firm. There's no paid way to raise a score or move up a list.

We hold our clients to one extra rule. Pleiades Consultancy builds or maintains the websites of several client firms, and reading those sites back would mean scoring words we wrote. So for clients we don't use their current website as evidence. Their facts come from what the firm published or told us before we worked on its site, and each of those items says so on the profile. In practice our clients end up with less coverage than a firm we crawl, never more.

What else we don't do

We don't take payment from firms that aren't clients, we don't sell listings, and we don't let a firm edit its own entry. Claiming a listing confirms who runs the firm. It doesn't change the score. Corrections go through a person, who checks the evidence first.
