When we checked in September 2026, Connecticut's Secretary of the State listed Smart Accountants LLC, the entity we matched to eSmartAccountants, as Active (Admin Dissolution Initiated). The LLC was registered in May 2024. We don't know the reason and won't guess at it. The firm can tell you, and it's a fair question to put to anyone who'll hold your financial records.
Benay Enterprises, Inc. sits at the other end on history. Its registration dates from 1986, and its site says the president, Dawn Reshen-Doty, joined in 1990.
On price the two are far apart. eSmartAccountants shows its Starter plan at $99 a month for businesses in their first year, and lists what it covers: an assigned bookkeeper, accrual-basis books, reconciliation, month-end close and reports. Benay says its fee depends on your size and needs, so you won't see a figure until you talk.
Scope is where Benay pulls ahead on paper. It describes custom finance teams for high-growth and multi-entity businesses, full-service payroll with tax filings, HR and benefits, and CFO work such as forecasting and dashboards. Reports come monthly, quarterly and annually, through a dedicated client manager. Its clients are in law, technology, retail, nonprofit and media, in the US and abroad.
Software won't decide it. Both name QuickBooks, Xero and Shopify. eSmartAccountants adds Gusto and Stripe; Benay adds Sage, Zoho and Square.
The two rows in the differences table are small ones. eSmartAccountants says it will meet local clients in person and has a privacy policy. On the six Benay pages we read, neither is stated.
Benay's coverage runs higher only because we also searched Connecticut's CPA permit data for it. An empty result still counts as checked, but it earns nothing.
